　　Dear Mike,

　　I’m writing to express my heartfelt apology to you, for I will fail to attend your birthday

　　party this Sunday.

　　Actually, I have always kept your birthday in my mind. However, my grandma has been diagnosed with heart attack which requires a surgery as soon as possible. And I must go to the hospital to take good care of her for a period of time, because I always remember that it was my grandma’ love and support that motivated me to make continuous progress. As we are told by the doctor, it will take around two weeks for my grandma to recover completely. It is unexpected and urgent. If you do not mind, I am wondering whether I could make another appointment with you.
